Published: 4th Jun 2018

When the Rugby World Cup came to town in 2015 Samoa and Fiji needed a world class pitch to train on.

MK Dons football team were happy to loan the RFU their training ground in Woughton for the duration but it needed work to bring it up to a world class
standard before training could commence and that is where the Serco team came into their own.

Setting our mark

MK Dons football team were happy to loan the RFU their training ground in Woughton for the duration but it needed work to bring it up to a world class standard before training could commence and that is where the Serco team came into their own. The turf needed to be aerated to prevent compaction, ponding, thatch build up and damage to the surface.

Exceeding the standards

Together with the MK Dons grounds staff the huge posts were erected, the grass was cut to an exact 35mm and maintained at this length before the pitches were marked out in accordance with RFU standards ready for play. The players were delighted and RFU went as far as saying that the pitch was one of the best training pitches to host the Rugby World cup.

The pitch was one of the best training pitches to host the Rugby World cup.
